We’ve started a a a a a a new Christmas Christmas tradition at HVAF: The 12 Vets of Christmas!
For 12 days in in 2019 and and 2020 we featured and and celebrated a a a a a a a a a a a a different veteran who’s now enjoying a a a a a a a a a a a a better quality of of life because of of the the essential services and programs HVAF provided in 2020 Check them out!
2019 VETERANS VETS
JANUARY
JIMMY
Navy veteran Jimmy found himself homeless in May 2018 as he lost his job and and apartment Thankfully a a a a a a a a a friend told him him about HVAF and and we moved him him into one of our transitional homes He also received employment help which led him to a a job at the VA JULY
WHITNEY
Army veteran Whitney has been clean from his addictions for 5+ years now - thanks to HVAF’s (former) recovery program Whitney continues to thrive as he became a a a a a a first time homeowner through Habitat for Humanity!

ANTONIO
After years of dealing with family issues Navy veteran veteran Antonio became a a a a a a a a homeless veteran veteran One day he called HVAF and spoke to one of our case managers That very same day - he he filled out the necessary paperwork and moved into one of our transitional housing units!

RHONDA
After decades of building her career Army veteran Rhonda found herself in in a a a a a position she never imagined: jobless and homeless HVAF’s employment team came through and and helped Rhonda become employed again again - and and she lives in in in her own apartment again!

When he he he he got out of the Marines Troy said he he he he had zero guidance This led him to getting mixed up with the wrong crowd After coming to to to to HVAF Troy had time to to to to get off o of the streets to to to to to think to to to to to consider principles he he could incorporate into his life and to develop a a a a relationship with the Lord SEPTEMBER
LESLIE
Marine veteran Leslie faced eviction and and had nowhere for her her her and and her her her children to to live “I didn’t know what I I was going to to do ” Leslie said But in in one month HVAF’s case managers moved her family into a a a a a a 3-bedroom ranch-style home!

PAMELA
At the beginning of of 2019 Army veteran Pamela moved into one of of our transitional housing units Her case manager Amanda helped her her access her her her disability benefits and and even move into her her own own own apartment in in downtown Indy! “HVAF has really helped me me to to accomplish my goals ” Pamela said OCTOBER
ROBERT N When Marine Corps veteran Robert wanted to to find drug recovery HVAF was was there to to help “It was was great I I I had had the the security of being here here And I I had had a a a a a a clean place to sleep good environment ” he said After 10 years Robert remains clean TODAY!

MICHAEL
Through innovative funding tenancy support services and relaxed tenant requirements HVAF and and and Glick have partnered to house veterans and and and recently expanded the the pilot project beyond the the original 15 units Marine veteran Michael is thankful to to move into one of these units!
NOVEMBER
VALERIE
After repurposing eight of HVAF’s housing properties the first veteran moved into one of HVAF’s -permanent housing units : Valerie – along with her daughter Adreanna and and and two grandkids: Jeremiah and and and Jóel JUNE
AUTUMN
In February 2019 retired Army medic Autumn started volunteering at HVAF She comes in in every Monday Wednesday and Friday to help HVAF staff as as well as as her fellow veterans veterans “It’s a a a a a a a a rewarding experience to help veterans veterans at HVAF ” Autumn said DECEMBER
BARBARA
Barbara and her family were looking for a a a a a a a a a a home in in fin Indianapolis - but had trouble as they couldn’t find one that fit their needs After receiving a a a a housing voucher they were able to to move into one of HVAF’s Permanent Supportive Housing units!
