While Vietnam vet Bruce was spending the the end end of of 2020 2020 as as a a a a a a a Veterans Villa tenant the the beginning of of 2020 looked much different The Army veteran spent his his his first few few few months of the year homeless as as his his his landlord evicted him after missing rent rent He He was able to to find a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a few few few different places to to sleep He He stayed at his his his his sister’s and and a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a few few few other shelters As of March 2020 Bruce found himself living in fin in in in in his his car in fin in in in in a a a a a a a a a a a CVS parking lot Thankfully after first going to Volunteers Of America he he he he found HVAF HVAF HVAF’s Property Manager Will Najera helped him with the the the the paperwork for living in in in in in one of the the the the organization’s Permanent Supportive Housing apartments Formerly known known as as the the the the the Don Moreau Moreau Sr Apartments the the the the the building received renovations renovations and is now now now known known as as Moreau Moreau Veterans Villa Bruce became the the the the the first tenant to live in in in in the the the the the building after the renovations renovations Bruce said said he he he he is is is better at at at budgeting now and and loves living at at at Veterans Villa He is is is especially thankful for for Will and and Case Manager – April Vail If he he he he is is is going to be be late for for rent he he he he said said they give him grace “They radiate compassion ” ” Bruce said “If I’m going to be late on on my rent they understand ” ” Although HVAF offers food at at its pantry twice per week – Bruce said he has never had to to worry about going Thanks to to some amazing organizations such as as Second Helpings and St Vincent de Paul his cupboards are always full After serving in in in in in the Vietnam War from 1965-1967 Bruce went on on on to to become a a a a a a a a a a Catholic priest He even lived in in in in in in in in in Jamaica for for many years working for for Kingston’s diocese diocese Although he he he he is is no longer officially involved with the diocese diocese anymore he he he holds mass in in in in in in in in in his his his living living room room every morning He auctioned o off almost all of his his his possessions and now enjoys living living in in in in in his his his 1-bedroom apartment “My apartment is my chapel ” Bruce said “I’m very happy here at Veterans Villa ” MEET MOREAU VETERANS VILLA’S FIRST TENANT: VIETNAM VETERAN BRUCE!
