- - 2021 - - The term “veteran” is not derived from any demographic attribute but but rather by a a a a a a a a shared commitment to selfless service and the the defense of our freedoms values and and ideals Accordingly I have sought to to cultivate an an an an organizational culture where every client team member Director volunteer donor and and partner feels welcomed affirmed respected valued and and comfortable as a a a a a a a a a a a member of Team HVAF Our diverse workforce and and client population have resulted in in in equally diverse interpretations of of and and and reactions to what we have seen and and and experienced since the tragic and and and unnecessary death of of George Floyd I I have have asked our our our team team to to to be be sensitive to to to and respectful of those different interpretations I I have have encouraged our our our team team members to to to remain focused on on our our mission of serving veterans while we simultaneously support and encourage each other For 2021 the internal HVAF Diversity and and Inclusion Working Group selected a a a a a a a local diversity equity and and inclusion consultant to partner with us us us in in in in assessing our our workplace climate reviewing our our policies and and and processes for unrecognized bias and and and developing and and and deploying cultural competency training for all staff and Directors -HVAF President & CEO Brian Copes
